The OPW have carried out a national screening exercise to identify areas of potential significant risk (APSR) from flooding. This exercise was called the Preliminary Flood Risk Assessment (PFRA) and was carried out using readily available or easily derivable information. One of the outputs of this study was the production of maps that identify the extent of flooding that is predicted during extreme events using the preliminary methodologies. The accuracy of these maps cannot be guaranteed as they were prepared using preliminary methodologies and information. These maps are however a useful tool in identifying areas that may be prone to flooding.
